Since the storm

Sun Jul 26, 2009, 11:25 AM
Ok, so this is a quick over view of what has happened since getting back from AX. I haven’t done much cause, well, life has gotten in the way. Fair is in another week and hopefully my life will eventually slow down enough to stop my head from spinning.

Three days after getting back the last of my Flemish giant rabbit (who I’d had since she was bore, and her pedigree was nearly completely filled with my name) died after contracting an infection while I was gone… I’m not gonna go into detail cause it was rather gruesome…

Then a week later Liz and I found a stray feral kitten, whom we’ve named Fuji (and Liz affectionately calls him Fujums) after we washed him with apple scented dawn soap to get all the fleas and mites off ( and then had to de-flea all the other cats in the house -_-; ) after he haled himself up into one of the couches and runs at the sight of either of us xD he’s slowly getting better but it’s a really long process.

Fair is coming up so it’s like “SHOWMANSHIP, SHOWMANSHIP, SHOWMANSHIP!!!!” with my rabbit, and there’s the display board to put together and the box that needs to be painted and the tags that need to be cut and pasted, and have I mentioned the shirts?

Oi’vey! I’ve never failed at something so much in my ENTIRE LIFE! We’ve gone through 3 screens a bucket of white paint, a Yudu machine and about 20 t-shirts before FINALLY getting it right!

Word of advise, it’s your first time screen printing? You doing it in your storage room? Do not, under any circumstance, do dark shirts with white ink… just… don’t. Or at least don’t do it then expect them to come out looking brilliantly white, cause that definitely not gonna happen.

And of course, last week, my beautiful 3yr old Chocolate Lab, Kahlua, starts limping after jumping off into the pool. We took her to the vet, he gave us pain pills, said make her stay in the house for 2 weeks, if she’s still having problems, come back in and we’ll run x-rays to make she doesn’t have what’s called Hip dysphasia. It’s very common in labs and is a debilitating genetic disorder where the hips socket isn’t formed right and if not treated will cause lameness. There’s treatment for it but it consists mainly of rigorous and extensive surgery to replace the socket. I Don’t know if that’s what it is, I can only guess. But I do know that she’s still in pain, and that’s my greatest concern at this moment.

Liz and I have been working at a raging pace since school let out in April, and now summer’s coming to a close and fall semester starts back up at the end of August and, it may be weird to say, but I couldn’t be more relieved. With school coming all the event’s I’m involved in will trickle to a stop and I can finally stop for the first real time since April, when at last moment, we decided “well, lets go for the gold! We’ve never done anything like this before and we’re already on track to go to AX lets do a test run at Fanime!” And we made our supply for Fanime and AX, thinking we wouldn’t sell very much and would have plenty for both cons to nearly selling out of EVERYTHING and having to restart only a month before AX.

I really can’t wait for normalcy to set in once again….

Return From AX

I haven't used this thing very often for... well... anything. So what better time to start then now?

Anywho, we're back from AX, had fun, saw a lot of people and all that. We stayed at the O hotel. It was, one word, fancy. You always know if a hotel's going to be fancy if they're bathroom door's made of GLASS. Not joking... It was... Sliding door too, so no privacy. Still it was rather neat (discounting the cockroach I found but what can you say, every place is bound to have a couple bugs in it... right?) Are table mates to the right were :iconlilmoon: and her group of friends. They were all really nice girls and had super cute stuff. I talked mainly with :iconseregitum: she stopped every single crossplayer that passed her table for a picture xD She even commissioned us to do the pig from maple story for a friend of her's.

Although AX went really smooth, the coming home wasn't so grand. One of my rabbits I've been babying for a year now finally took a turn for the worse while we were gone. She'd been dealing with her hips since she was a baby and needed a lot of work to keep her from getting stiff. Liz's brother was taking care of the animal's for us while we were gone and our list of instructions didn't have to let her out of her cage every day so her legs got so stiff She couldn't walk anymore. The pain was so great that she stopped drinking and eating and passed away the night after we got back. I keep telling myself her suffering is gone, that it's better this way, but I can't help but miss her... She's the second animal I've lost within the last month, work has been able to keep my mind off it but the feelings are still so raw to have another animal go is just so devastating for me. If I didn't have the kittens or Kahlua, Lily, I don't know what I'd do...

On a brighter note, we finally got ourselves a stationary computer ( which is a good thing too since my laptop is half way across the state at the moment and I keep killing Liz's xD But that means we can update this and I Hate Leeks.com so much faster now considering the wireless reception from where we've put the new comp is the best in the entire house >3<

Tomorrow we're going to San Fran for Liz's birthday extravaganza! and after that Monterey and after that... WORK xD I'm gonna try to make a couple painted bags, but I have to hurry! Fairs coming up and all my rabbit kids need shirts xP new on our lists of stuff we're trying- screen printing Wooh! And failing epically isn't an option ^^
